MONT GERBIER DE JONC:  Anti-Aging Skin Care Tips

Your skin is your largest organ and the one that everyone sees. No one wants to look older than they are, but sun damage and poor health habits can result in unhealthy, mottled, and wrinkled skin.

At Monarque Health & Wellness, we’re your partners in skincare. Our medical team works with you to ensure your skin has a healthy glow, no matter how old you are. To that end, we’ve put together the following five anti-aging skincare tips.

Use sunscreen daily and choose one with a moisturizer

Using sunscreen is one of the best ways to avoid having skin that looks like leather as you grow older. The sun’s UA and UV rays damage your skin. Your body produces extra melanin when you’re in the sun for prolonged periods to help protect it; the melanin is the source of your tan.

But as you grow older, melanin can clump together and produce dark spots on your face, neck, hands, and other exposed areas of your body. In addition, sun damage causes lines and wrinkles, because too much sun causes the collagen and elastin fibers in your skin to break down. These two proteins are the keys to keeping your skin smooth.

Your body produces less collagen and elastin as you age. Aging plus excess sun exposure is a recipe for wrinkles and dark spots. That’s a good reason to apply sunscreen liberally; apply it 30 minutes before you go outside and every two hours or immediately after getting out of the water. Look for the words “water resistant” and “broad-spectrum” on the container.

Another tip about sunscreen: Look for one with a moisturizer, and avoid those containing alcohol, which dries out your skin.

Use a gentle cleanser

Use a mild face wash that doesn’t strip your skin of all of its moisture. As you age, your skin gets thinner and more fragile. At Monarque Health & Wellness, we can recommend cleansers that won’t harm your skin, yet cleanse it thoroughly. Use gentle pressure and a circular motion when you wash your face, and avoid vigorous scrubbing. Get the best deals for anti-aging supplements.

Look for key ingredients in moisturizers

If your skin is drying out from aging and other factors, look for moisturizers containing hyaluronic acid and dimethicone. Other appropriate ingredients that help keep your skin moist include glycerin, propylene glycol, proteins, urea, lanolin, or mineral oil.

You can use a thicker moisturizer at night and a thinner one during the day, as well as in the summer months. Some moisturizers contain antioxidants like green tea or pomegranate. Since antioxidants block free radicals that destroy skin cells, moisturizers with antioxidants may help your skin.

Eat and drink healthily

For your skin to be healthy, you need to eat healthy foods and keep hydrated. We recommend eight glasses of water a day. Another great beverage is green tea, which can actually help prevent sun damage to your skin.

Low-fat dairy such as yogurt and cottage cheese is a good source of vitamin A, important for healthy skin. In addition, fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants that protect your skin cells include dark berries, plums, prunes, artichokes, and black, red, and pinto beans.

Fish high in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna, as well as walnuts and flaxseed oil are great for your skin because they help the cell membrane hold in water.

Finally, use cold-pressed, expeller-processed, or extra virgin olive oil instead of vegetable oil in your salad dressing and when you cook; just don’t cook with olive oil on extremely high heat.

Take vitamins and consider a supplement

Even though you eat healthily, as you age, your body doesn’t absorb certain nutrients as well as when you were younger. Vitamin D is an essential vitamin for your skin. It helps create healthy skin cells, but your body may not produce it as efficiently as you age. Other important vitamins for your skin are vitamins A, C,  E, and K.

Taking an age-appropriate multivitamin containing significant daily percentages of these and other vitamins and minerals may help your anti-aging efforts. You might also consider a fish oil supplement. Aside from other health benefits, omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil boosts skin hydration and protect against sun damage.

Social media tips for any platform

Create a specific strategy for each social media platform

The same way you prepare other aspects of your marketing plan, you need to have a specific and intentional plan for each platform you use. Each platform has nuances and best practices for generating engagement. Your brand may not need to have a presence on every platform, but for your posts to be targeted, you need to have a strategy that is specific to the platform you’re using.

Make sure you can answer questions like:

  • Why am I using this platform?
  • Who will reach on this platform?
  • What post types work best on this platform?
  • How are my posts unique to this platform?

If you have a hard time answering these questions, it might be time to dig deeper into why you’re investing time there. Answering these questions will also help you develop your strategy for that platform. Try out the best affiliate management service.

If you’re just getting started, prioritize the quality of your content over the number of your posts and sites that you use. For most businesses, particularly small businesses, trying to tackle a new strategy on five different social media networks often results in doing a mediocre job with little to no results.

Be consistent

How consistently you post should be specific to each social media site you’re utilizing. Some platforms like Twitter and Instagram Stories require you to be active multiple times per day to get the maximum potential from your audience. Other post types, like regular Instagram Posts and Facebook updates, don’t have as much urgency and can be used less sparingly. When determining your post strategy, look at factors such as how the algorithm works for each platform and whether content posts chronologically or is curated based on other factors.

This ties back in with your social media marketing plan. You should outline:

  • How often you plan to publish on each social media platform based on best practices for that platform
  • What type of content you plan to post on each platform
  • Who is your target audience on each platform

Parking Tips for begginers

TIPS FOR TEACHING YOUR TEEN TO PARK CONFIDENTLY

For new drivers and even experienced drivers parking in different situations can become stressful and difficult. I know that for many, parallel parking is often avoided as it can be a bit more challenging to master. This week I felt it would be beneficial to share some tips and tricks as well as some great resources with you to help you teach your teen to confidently park in any situation!

Angled Parking

Angled parking is where the parking spot is at about a 45-degree angle to the lane. This type of parking is common in cities across North America.  Use the following steps in assisting your teen:

  1. Have your teen locate a vacant parking spot and advise them to use the signal to notify surrounding traffic of their intentions.
  2. Have your teen drive parallel with the curb, and once he/she can see the left side of the vehicle that is parked to the right of the stall, advise them to turn the wheel to the right and proceed.
  3. Once your teen is about halfway through the parking stall, have them begin to straighten your wheels and drive forward ensuring that the front left and right side of your vehicle are not too close to the vehicles parked on either side.

Parallel Parking

Parallel parking can be daunting, especially for new drivers but proper instruction and practice can help your teen become confident in their new skill. Use the following steps to aid you in instructing your teen with parallel parking:

  1. Practice with your teen using “props” such as cones with a PVC pipe or other objects that won’t raise your insurance if your teen accidentally hits them.
  2. Once you are confident, they have the idea, have your teen look for a spot that is big enough for the vehicle to fit, and ensure they are checking for traffic and pedestrians.
  3. Instruct your teen to pull up beside the vehicle in front of the spot they are going to be parking in and align the rear tires with the rear bumper of the other vehicle. Have them check for traffic and use the signal to indicate where they are parking.
  4. Before your teen begins to reverse, have them crank the steering wheel all the way to the right.
  5. Instruct them to reverse slowly keeping the wheel cranked.
  6. When the front right wheel is aligned with the rear left corner of the vehicle in front, instruct your teen to crank the steering wheel left and continue to slowly reverse further into the parking space.
  7. Have them make any necessary adjustments to ensure there is enough room in front of and behind.

Here’s a great video resource from our Coaching New Drivers program on parallel parking, instructed by Mike Pehl, our veteran crash investigator and driving educator! The video gives you a step-by-step process to progressively teach your teen to parallel park. Also make sure to check out Dallas Texas the most complete driving schools list.

Some helpful tips include adjusting the mirrors, practicing in larger spots before progressing into tighter spots, and being calm and patient while your teen is learning. Just like any skill, practice will make them better!

Reverse Parking

Your teen may ask, “Why do I need to reverse into a parking space when I can just drive straight in?” Reversing into a parking space can reduce the risk of getting into an accident. The reason behind this is when leaving the parking spot, your teen will have more visibility. Did you know that 20% of accidents happen in parking lots? (IIHS, 2018). Use the following steps to aid you in practicing the skill with your teen:

  1. Once your teen has located an empty parking stall, instruct your teen to drive in front of the stall so that the back bumper is partially in front of it.
  2. Ensure your teen uses the signal to advise other drivers of their intention to enter the parking stall.
  3. Instruct them to check their surroundings.
  4. Have your teen begin to reverse slowly and turn the steering wheel to straighten the vehicle out.
  5. Have your teen continue to reverse and straighten out until the vehicle is fully in the parking stall.

Before having your teen reverse into a parking spot between two vehicles, practice in an empty parking lots until they get the hang of it.
